Who Are We?

Like you, we love animals. Like you, we want to help animals. The Capital District Humane Association -- "For the Love of Animals" -- was formed in response to the serious need for a private animal welfare group to serve the Capital Region of New York State. It is incorporated and approved by the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) of New York City. Members of the Capital District Humane Association (CDHA) are volunteers with many years of experience working with displaced and homeless animals.

We find pets new homes! CDHA has found good homes for hundreds of displaced animals through a careful "adoption" process:

The nearly 80 employees of Internet Marketing Ninjas, 21 Corporate Drive, Clifton Park, recently did a food and supply drive to benefit the homeless dogs and cats in Capital District Humane Association's adoption program. The drive was an overwhelming success, with so much being donated that it barely fit into a Sport Utility vehicle! Thanks to everyone from Internet Marketing Ninjas for their generosity.

We hold adoption clinics where our animals can be seen by potential adopters;
We screen potential adopters for suitability as pet owners;
We have adopting owners sign a legal contract stating they are aware of licensing and leash laws and pledging to provide proper medical attention for their new pets;
We request a minimal adoption donation but give adopted pets ID tags and immunizations at no charge and spay and neuter all dogs and cats;
We take back adopted pets and rehome them.
We maintain a waiting list of animals in private homes needing new owners and animals people would like to adopt; and
We publicize updated lists of pets available from shelters.
Adopters must be within close driving range of Albany, NY. First preference for adoptions will be those living in the immediate Capital Distict Region

Our goal is to find every animal a loving home.
